Being sugarcrm developer maybe my ideas are not 100% impartial but I’ll try to express some impartial thoughts about using or not a CRM system and focused on SugarCRM

First question would be “Do you really need a CRM” ? or is just something you heard from a business partner that sounds well … ?

So don’t start implementing a CRM if you don’t have any idea of what the goals are .. sorry for this remark to all that know the answer of this question but have met some people that wanted to implement a CRM just because it sounds well or was fancy .. and for this cases the consultant

either defines the requirements and work flow for that company or the project might get directly to trash ..

Ok we need a CRM .. what software to use ? .. there are tons out there ..

There are a lot of companies building, supporting, developing CRM systems .. some for @microsofX,some for not so known systems and some for free systems as sugarcrm or vtiger .Hard to decide right ? But unfortunately you have to … and I won’t comment microsof@ services (I’ll let other people doing this) instead I’ll focus on “open source” part .

First of all everybody needs to understand that open source is not really inducting “free of cost” .. yes the software is FREE but what ? .. generally speaking there must be a individual/company that will install the software on a server .. and administrating servers are again some individuals .. some peoples

are getting involved in this, so even “open source” systems are not so free of charge as they might look in first phase ..

Getting deeper into this issue the consultant company together with developers are important since most of the time the standard paid or “open source” CRM systems are going to provide at most 60-80% of the real company needs so each company would require a certain level of customizations to map

the CRM to user/company needs .

Getting to this point if you haven’t slept already or closed the browser window unfortunately me or most likely nobody can’t provide the perfect solution .. you need to search and analyse the best solutions offered by different companies and also find a development team

that would help you in implementation process if is not fully matched by base software functionalities .

Speaking about SugarCRM this might or not be a solution to cover your company needs .

PRO:

1.worldwide spreaded

2.stable company that (hope) is not going to disappear soon

3.lot of business expertiese

4.somehow (more or less) carefull with it’s partners .. this is importantant since with out partners that implement the solution

CONS:

1:bugs .. but nowadays what software is free of bugs ?

2:speed .. witch can be overcomed by professional hosting

3:lack of highly trained developers
